Area grads start NFL season in K.C.

Posted by coach on Monday, Sep 7th, 2009 at 1:07 am

La Salle-Peru graduate Mike Goff and Eureka grad Andy Studebaker will both start the 2009 NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Goff, a 1994 L-P alum and 33-year-old guard, was an Iowa Hawkeye before spending six years in Cincinnati and five in San Diego. He signed with Kansas City in March. Over the past nine seasons, there have only been three games in which Goff did not start on the offensive line, those all coming in 2002.

Studebaker didn’t play football prior to his high school days at Eureka, but starred there as a tight end before his 2004 graduation, then went on to Wheaton College. At Wheaton, he was named CCIW defensive player of the year as a senior, then was selected by Philadelphia in the sixth round of the 2008 draft.

He was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad by Kansas City in November of ‘08. Studebaker is currently the backup strong-side linebacker for the Chiefs.
